As the celebration continued to spread throughout the nation, Congress wrote a Joint Resolution and President Eisenhower signed the Bill into law designating the First of May as Loyalty Day, a special day set aside for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom. With Newports strong support of the Loyalty Day tradition and its designation as a Coast Guard City USA, we invite you to share in this years celebration.

Jun 6 NATIONAL TRAILS DAY, YACHATS Cape Perpetua
celebrate our wilderness areas and the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. At Cape Perpetua there will be native flute performances, guest speakers and interpretive hikes scheduled throughout the day. There will be informational / educational tables and more at the Yachats Commons between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm. (Please see the complete Program of activities.) This event will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of our coastal Angell Job Corps. This organization plays a crucial role in providing education and training for young adults to become productive citizens. As a partner to the Siuslaw National Forest, Oregon Parks, and surrounding communities, the Angell Job Corps has contributed to trail building and maintenance projects since initiating their first community project in 1964, the rebuilding of the Giant Spruce Tree Trail.

Nearly 30 coast artists will display their work in oils, watercolors, photography, acrylics, pen and ink, wood and other media. The Yachats Arts Guild comprises artists working in a wide range of media and living on the central Oregon coast. The Guild supports its members by sponsoring several exhibitions each year in the Yachats Commons, as well as exhibits in venues in other cities in the region.

Celebrate Waldport's Centennial and enjoy a fabulous display of fireworks over Alsea Bay beginning at dusk. You'll find plenty of sandy beach to enjoy the view. Park at Patterson State Park or park in Waldport to view the festivities from the Historic Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center or along Keady Wayside. Arrive early and build a sand castle, catch Dungeness crab in Alsea Bay, search for sand dollars along miles of sandy beach, toast marshmallows over a bonfire, ride a green bike and then, by all means enjoy the fireworks!
