Your Coastal Getaway Has Room for Relaxation

You’re staying at The Fireside Motel with the plan to relax, fully unwind and let go of all those day-to-day stresses that make you crave a vacation: work, errands, family obligations, healthcare appointments…the list goes on.

Relax! You came to the right place. There is lots to do while at The Fireside, without feeling like you’re doing anything at all. Here’s our list of favorite ways to relax:

Treat yourself to a spa day

Next door at our sister property, Overleaf Lodge & Spa, guests of The Fireside Motel may purchase a guest spa day pass to enjoy all the available spa amenities, including the oceanfront heated soaking tubs (you’ll need a bathing suit!), the sauna and steam room, and the exercise room. So, however you prefer to burn off steam, a spa day pass is just the ticket. Guests of The Fireside may also book an appointment for a spa treatment, such as a massage or a facial, with one of Overleaf Spa’s licensed technicians. Check the spa services and prices here. You’re guaranteed to emerge feeling rejuvenated.

Share a bottle of wine or craft beer

Many Oregon wine and beer producers craft outstanding beverages, so take some time to consider the local selection available for purchase inside The Fireside lobby. What better way to savor these singular Oregon flavors than to purchase a bottle to open and enjoy? We even stock logo glasses for you to purchase as a keepsake when you’re ready to pour. And next door at Overleaf Lodge & Spa, a Wine Cove is stocked with more choices, including whites, rosés, reds and sparkling wines.

Meditate

The practice of meditating may seem intimidating, especially if it’s not something you’ve done before, but meditation essentially means you’re being mindful in your breathing and presence. Try this: Open your motel room window or balcony door so you can hear the outside sounds of the ocean and people moving out and about. Pick a quiet spot to sit in your room where you feel comfortable. Close your eyes, breathe slowly and deeply, and listen to the sounds around you for about 10 minutes. Don’t respond or react or open your eyes. Just sit, taking it in. That’s all it takes to meditate!

Play a round of horseshoes

Just to the west of The Fireside Motel parking lot are two horseshoe pits featuring the best ocean view any player could imagine. Ask for a set of four horseshoes at the front desk. To play, players take turns tossing the horseshoe from the launching zone to the opposite pit. The horseshoe that lands closest to the center stake gets the point for that round. If the horseshoe catches the stake for a ringer, that’s worth three points. Move to the opposite pit for the next round and so on. The winner is the first to score 21 points. Try a game at sunset!

Walk with the dog

Fresh air at the coast is good for anyone’s soul, and that goes for your pets, too. We love our pet guests at The Fireside. Our past pet guests are full of stories of how much they love their walks along the 804 Trail, often venturing as far as the stretch of beach on the north end of the path, where they can roam off leash with supervision. There is a “hidden” forested trail, too, just to the south of The Fireside lobby; look for the doggie bag station to find the trail entrance. It is a short and sweet loop in a stand of coastal spruces and a mossy delight to explore. Share your adventures with your pet, share your photos here!

Enjoy games, puzzles, books, movies

If you forgot to pack a book to read, some options are on display inside the Village Gift Gallery, or visit Books and More nearby in downtown Yachats to peruse a collection of gently used books. The Yachats Dollar General also has puzzles and games in store. And a pack of playing cards are available for purchase in the lobby! As for movies, check out our lobby DVD collection, a good mix of recent and classic movies, including family-friendly flicks; DVD checkouts are complimentary for our guests.

Look for wildlife, fishing trawlers

Often you don’t even need binoculars to see a decent variety of coastal wildlife outside your room windows. From seagulls to sea lions, from whales to petrels and osprey, you’ll be treated to a plethora of sights depending on the season. Binoculars are available for loan at the front desk! You might even glimpse a fishing trawler in the distance. Want to know the name of the boat and where it hails from? Check out this tracker for vessels along the Oregon Coast.
